High Scardus
The high scardus trail is older than Christianism. It was built in 2 century BC by the romans and it goes around high roundy mountains of Sharr. This trail is home to the biggest pastoral lands in Europe. It offers wide open views with high grass across three countries: Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia. The name Scardus was later translated into slavic language Shara which means colorful.
It’s a name that is deserved by these high mountains as colors change during the seasons with autumn being most spectacular. While in spring and Summer the Kosovan and Albanian sides are well known for hiking the Macedonian part of these mountains has the larger part of the ski resorts. The modern High Scardus Trail is designed by numerous professionals engaged by German Development Agency GIZ: Read more about the project.
The highlight of the project is Korab Peak, Sharr Mountains
